NEWSAfter a successful year as part of the Sydney Sixers franchise, West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has been re-signed by the three-time Big Bash League winners for the upcoming season of the competition. The pacer played a significant role in Sixers’ title-winning campaign last season, with 16 wickets and 55 runs for the franchise.
It would be a third appearance for the all-rounder with the team in Magenta, after he made a handful of appearance in the seventh edition of the tournament. Brathwaite was also part of The Hundred recently for the Manchester Originals, bringing in a ton load of experience in the shortest format for the Sixers, who aim to capture the title for the third consecutive year.
"Obviously winning and the team's success last year made it attractive to want to come back. As you get older you definitely want to be somewhere you can hopefully be challenging for trophies but at the Sixers there is a deeper camaraderie and sense of family atmosphere," Brathwaite said.
"As a team we went through a tumultuous season last year on the road without getting back to Sydney until the final and we built a very strong bond. The BBL is one of the biggest T20 tournaments in the world and hopefully that bond can help us to success again, this time in front of our fans at the SCG all season,” he added.
Familiar names will return for the Sixers this season, including English all-rounder Tom Curran and Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who has been a sporadic feature for the side in the past few seasons owing to national team duties.
"That BBL final at the SCG last season was so special. We played away from home all year and performed well enough to earn a home final. It was the only game all year with our own fans, played at our home, not someone else's home ground or a neutral venue."
