After the success of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which hosted the final of the mega event at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, has proposed to build a Residential Women's Cricket Academy, which will act as a Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cricket in India.
MCA president Ajinkya Naik, in a statement on November 7, when the felicitation ceremony of the World Cup winners from the state of Maharashtra was going on in Mumbai, said that he has written a letter to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, asking for a suitable plot of land within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to construct the academy.
“The proposed academy aims to serve as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for women's cricket, offering world-class facilities including ground, indoor practice areas, gymnasium, physiotherapy and sports medicine support, residential accommodation, and academic classrooms,” Cricbuzz wrote in a report regarding the academy.
"The proposed residential setup will address these difficulties by providing a single integrated space for training, recovery, and education," the MCA said in a statement.
Naik, as per Cricbuzz, continued, "The Mumbai Cricket Association has always been committed to advancing cricket infrastructure and nurturing talent across all levels. Establishing a dedicated Residential Women's Cricket Academy will be a major step forward in empowering women cricketers and strengthening Maharashtra's leadership in promoting women's sports."
In the felicitation program, Maharashtra cricketers Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana and Radha Yadav, along with head coach Amol Muzumdar and bowling coach Avishkar Salvi, as well as support staff belonging to the state, were rewarded the cash prize.
