While the other batters struggled to find their ground, Nitish Kumar Reddy put on a stellar batting display in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), scoring an unbeaten 105, his first century in international cricket.
It was also the 21-year-old’s first-ever first-class century, proving why he’s grown leaps and bounds during this five-match Test series against Australia.
Here’s how the cricketing world reacted to the sublime century:
This young man just continues to impress. His compact technique, gutsy attitude and most importantly the way he puts a price on his wicket are all impressive attributes of a fine Test batter in the making. Very well played.
On public demand This is for Nitish Kumar Reddy. Well played youngster 👏 so proud of you 💯
That’s a Test century of high quality and technical skill from 21-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy. Left the ball expertly, & attacked when needed. Another deeply moving story of parental sacrifice in Indian cricket.
Congratulations to Nitish kumar Reddy on scoring his first century. This remarkable achievement reflects hard work and dedication. We look forward to witnessing more successes in your career. Keep inspiring us all.

This is the first Test hundred and he is going to score many more in the near future. I am expecting to see him among the runs in the future. He is a star of the Indian cricket.
However, he will have to remember the sacrifices made by his father and other members of the family. Nitish is here because of Indian cricket, and he will have to make sure that he doesn’t take Indian cricket for granted. If he stays true to himself, a successful career lies ahead of him

We groomed him systematically. He scored 1,200 runs in a season and 400 runs [in] one innings in U-16 cricket. This age group is the entry point in Indian domestic cricket. He was a batter who could bowl when he started playing cricket.
Nitish then worked on his bowling, and he now contributes as an all-rounder. He has been magnificent for India against Australia and will improve further.

“A knock to remember by Nitish. He has impressed me right from the 1st Test, and his composure and temperament have been on display right through. Today, he took it a notch higher to play a crucial innings in this series. Wonderfully and ably supported by Sundar as well. Well played!” Tendulkar wrote on X.
