The Punjab Police of Pakistan, under whose jurisdiction fall two of the three host cities of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, have designated 12, 564 police officers and personnel to achieve the goal of a peaceful tournament.
These police personnel will be in charge of conducting a smooth tournament from the security perspective, making sure that there are no untoward incidents in the cities of Lahore and Rawalpindi. Karachi is the third city that is part of the tournament and will host the opening game involving Pakistan and New Zealand.
In the entire tournament, all the players will have the status of State Guest, meaning that they will be provided with the highest amount of security. Rawalpindi and Lahore combined will host at least seven and at max eight matches.
Five of them including one semi-final and possibly a final (if India don’t qualify) will be played at the famous Gaddafi Stadium in Punjab’s capital city of Lahore.
“Authorities have confirmed the deployment of 12,564 officers and personnel to safeguard the high-profile matches set to take place in Lahore and Rawalpindi,” Geo Super reported on January 22 (Wednesday).
“In Lahore, 7,618 officers will be on duty, while 4,535 personnel will manage security in Rawalpindi. Additionally, 411 officers from the Special Branch will enhance security operations,” it added in its report.
In aerial monitoring and route map decisions, the Police will also have support from the Pakistan Army and Pak Rangers, two of the most sought-after security forces in the country for the smooth conduct of the eight-team tournament that will begin on February 19 and end on March 9, 2025.
India will play all their matches, including the one against Pakistan in Dubai while the rest of the matches will be held in Pakistan.
