New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra was named player of the tournament for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after India defeated the Blackcaps by four wickets in the final of the event on March 9 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) in Dubai.
Ravindra, who has a knack of playing brilliantly in ICC events, hit two centuries in the tournament and also took three wickets with the ball, including that of India skipper Rohit Sharma in the final.
Overall, the left-handed batter scored 263 runs in just four innings. And was rightly named Player of the Tournament despite ending up on the losing side.
Speaking after claiming the award, Ravindra said, “It is bitter-sweet (about not winning the tournament, but winning the award).”
“We played a good game of cricket. It is just that we get to play on good wickets, but it is also the work I have done years before. [I am] very proud of my past. And I am very thankful to everyone who has helped me along the way,” he added.
Talking about his bowling, the 25-year-old said, “I always like to bowl. Santner always gives me a bit of banter that I don't bowl much in the nets. All members of the squad have a part to play; we just go about our business.”
