Rohit Sharma’s participation in the captain's event of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is in jeopardy, as the BCCI is yet to clarify its stance or plans regarding it.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo on the same, Devajit Saikia, the newly appointed BCCI secretary, said, “It [Rohit’s attending the event in Karachi] hasn’t yet been discussed. It’s not on the agenda yet.”
Even earlier, there was a lot of fuss over India travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, and ultimately, a hybrid model was accepted for the tournament. As of now, it isn’t certain if the Government of India needs to be asked about Rohit travelling to Pakistan separately for the captain’s event.
The political climate and lack of geopolitical relations between the two neighbouring countries have already raised a lot of issues, not limited to India’s participation in the ICC tournament. There were also reports about India not wearing the jersey with Pakistan’s name on it as the tournament's official host. However, Saikia dismissed all such reports.
“We will follow whatever are the ICC guidelines. We will follow the ICC directive,” Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz on January 22 (Wednesday).
That’s why now the Indian players will have the official International Cricket Council (ICC) logo, which will include Pakistan's imprint, on their jerseys during the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan are the official hosts of the Champions Trophy, starting on February 19, even though India are playing all their games in Dubai. Despite that, both India and Pakistan are in the same group and will clash in a high-octane atmosphere in Dubai on February 23.
