Rohit Sharma has been stripped of his captaincy from ODIs, and it seems that instead of affecting him, it has changed him for the better because he has become leaner, fitter and looks fresh heading to Australia.
Talking about the transformation, former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar said that he has trained himself well to get rid of an image that tried to portray him as someone not really fit.
“There was a lot of talk about him, putting on weight and a few images coming out at the airport. So it was all about changing all of that and in a lot of ways to be healthier, faster and fitter,” Indian Express quoted Nayar as saying to Star Sports.
Nayar, who played with Rohit both for the Indian team and also for the Mumbai domestic side and of late, was coach of the team that Rohit captained, also talked about his approach to batting after being stripped of the captaincy.
“Whether he’s captain or not, that will never change the way he plays for this team and for his teammates,” said Nayar.
India will be up against the Aussies in a three-match ODI series, the first game of that will be played at Perth on October 19 (Sunday).
