Chennai-like pitch awaits India and Bangladesh in Kanpur

Rumours are also rife about two pitches being prepared in Kanpur and the Indian management given a choice to choose the one they want to play on

Chief curator of the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur hinted that the pitch at the Uttar Pradesh-based ground for the second Test between India and Bangladesh could be similar to what was seen in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

"There will be that Chennai match feeling,” Shiva Kumar, the chief curator of Kanpur told PTI. “It will have something for everyone. It will offer bounce in the first two sessions and it will be pretty good for batting for the first two days. Then, the spinners will come into play on the last three days," he added.

However, rumours are rife that two pitches have been prepared in Kanpur and it has been left to the Indian management including skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir to choose the one they want to play on. Revsports reported that black soil and red soil have been used to prepare the two different pitches.

However, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) revealed that the natural black soil (Kaali Mitti) pitch has always been prepared at Kanpur by sourcing the soil from a village in Unnao district, nearby Kanpur and on the shores of river Ganga.

"We get this soil tested from the Indian Institute of Technology. It's a special soil that is found near a pond in village Kali Mitti. It (bringing black soil from the village) is a practice we have been following for years," a UPCA official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The second Test begins on September 27 at Kanpur. India lead the two-match series 1-0
