Cheteshwar Pujara Names Former Teammate As India's Next Head Coach Option

The player is more than just active on social media with his posts on X and his regular videos through his YouTube channel.

Ravichandran Ashwin might have retired from all forms of international cricket, but he still wants to play, as was visible with him participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) seasons in 2025.

He is more than just active on social media with his posts on X and his regular videos through his YouTube channel.

Even after all this, if the spinner with the second-most Test dismissals for India can manage to take out time and discuss cricket with his fellow teammates, it means they are likely to recommend his name as future coach.

That’s exactly what happened when Test veteran Cheteshwar Pujara was asked about which of his former teammates is likely to become India’s coach, and he answered instantly- Ravichandran Ashwin.

It was a video posted by ESPNcricinfo on their social media handles in which Pujara was asked multiple one-word questions about his teammates. Amongst other answers, the 37-year-old said that Ashwin is also likely the person who can discuss cricket 24x7.

Pujara and Ashwin together featured for India in 90 Tests, where the team won 55, drew 19 and lost 16. While Ashwin bid goodbye to the game with 537 wickets in 106 games, Pujara has scored 7,195 runs in 103 matches and is yet to retire from international cricket.
