Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara feels Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been a “little casual” in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Punjab have won four of their six games, but Maxwell has only managed 41 runs in five innings @ 8.20 and a strike rate of 100.
Maxwell had a good IPL 2023 (400 runs at a strike rate of 183.5) but has been terrible across the last two editions - 93 runs in 14 innings at an average of 6.64 and a strike rate of 110.7.
“He hasn’t changed the way he has approached the IPL. There have been times when he’s been a little casual. He’s the same as he was, maybe eight to ten years ago. I’m a little critical, but there are times when, as a player, you need to wake up," Pujara told ESPNCricinfo.
“You need to realise you’re getting an opportunity to play and be part of a franchise where things are at stake. And there are times a player can get casual, they’re not worried about what’s happening.”
PBKS will take on Maxwell’s previous franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18 (Friday).
