Chinnaswamy Might Not Get To Host Maharaja Trophy Games: Here’s Why
According to multiple reports, the KSCA is now looking at the grounds at Alur or the Wadeyar ground in Mysore to host these games.
The Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has undergone a massive fall in its capability to host big cricketing events after the unfortunate stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) celebratory parade after the win in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League.
That has jeopardised the hosting of Maharaja Trophy 2025 games at the iconic Bengaluru ground, as the police haven’t given clearance for the league to be held at the venue. This is despite the league already announcing that spectators won’t be allowed in the stadium during the tournament.
According to multiple reports, the KSCA is now looking at the grounds at Alur in Bengaluru or the Wadeyar ground in Mysore to host these games. Notably, the Maharani Trophy, the women’s T20 league being organised by KSCA, has already been scheduled to be played at Alur.
With multiple investigations and reports ongoing, the blame has been put on Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and RCB management, and as a result, the stadium has been deemed unfit to host big-ticket events.
However, the big problem with the Alur ground is that it doesn’t have any spectator seating or floodlights, which makes it hard for the broadcasters, along with the fact that night games won’t be a possibility there.
Until the investigations are done and a clear pathway is established for the Chinnaswamy to host these games, it’s probable that the women’s ODI World Cup games scheduled to be held at the ground can also be shifted to some other locations.
Further clarity on it is being awaited as the KSCA and BCCI wait for the investigations to get over. This has caused a lot of frustration amongst the franchises, who have already made hotel bookings in Bengaluru for the teams and their players.
