Chris Jordan replaces Jofra Archer for remainder of IPL 2023

The England all-rounder last represented Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022 and will join the five-time champions for INR 2 Crore

Chris Jordan, who was unsold in the auction, has been roped in by Mumbai Indians as a replacement for injured Jofra Archer for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2023.

"Chris replaces Jofra Archer, whose recovery and fitness continues to be monitored by ECB. Jofra will return home to focus on his rehabilitation," stated the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Sharma-led side have suffered numerous injuries in the build-up to the tournament, with Jasprit Bumrah, Jhye Richardson being ruled out of the season.

While Archer played the opening clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he suffered from a sore elbow and underwent a minor procedure in Belgium before rekindling with the squad ahead of their clash against Rajasthan Royals.

The right-arm pacer featured in five games and managed to scalp only two wickets at an average of 95 and an economy rate of 9.5 runs per over.

Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board stated: "Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery. However, pushing through the discomfort whilst recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging.

"Therefore, it has been agreed for him to return to the UK for a period of rest and rehabilitation to give him the best opportunity for a full recovery."

His England counterpart Jordan made his IPL debut in 2016 and played 28 matches, picking up 27 wickets at an average of 30.85 and an economy of 9.32 and last represented Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2022.

Recently, Jordan played for champions Gulf Giants at the ILT20 tournament in February, where he finished as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, picking 20 wickets in 10 innings.

The 34-year-old joins the Mumbai outfit for INR 2 Crores and will be part of the squad that will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, May 9, at the Wankhede Stadium.
