Injury has struck the English camp, as the ECB have confirmed that Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the remainder of the Oval Test with a shoulder dislocation on July 31 (Thursday).
The incident occurred during day one of the fifth Test, when the all-rounder was seen holding his shoulder after putting out a dive in the deep.
“A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board stated that Woakes, who sustained a nasty blow to the shoulder on Day 1 of the fifth Test, will play no further part in the Test match,” ICC said in their statement.
“A further assessment shall be made at the end of the series.”
Woakes has by far bowled the most in the five-match Test series, a staggering 181 overs. However, on day one of the fifth Test, he had just bowled the 14 overs, with figures of 1/46. In his absence, it will be a major shift for the inexperienced English pace unit to pull off, with Jacob Bethell being the only spin option.
