Colin de Grandhomme ruled out of England Tests with heel injury
The New Zealand all-rounder will take at least 10 to 12 weeks to recover according to head coach Gary Stead
New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme has been ruled out of the remainder of the England Tests after a tear to his right plantar fascia (heel).
Michael Bracewell, who was in the squad as standby for the first Test at Lord's has officially been added as de Grandhomme's replacement for the rest of the series.
Bracewell made his international debut for the Blackcaps in the ODI series at home against the Netherlands in April this year. He has scored over 5,000 first-class runs so far and his part-time off-spin has fetched him 27 scalps as well.
Head coach Gary Stead has confirmed that de Grandhomme will require at least 10-12 weeks to recover. “It’s a real shame for Colin to suffer this injury so early in the series,” Stead said.
“He’s a massive part of our Test side and we’ll certainly miss him.
“It’s great to be able to call on someone like Michael who’s been with the squad for the past month and is match ready.”
During New Zealand's five-wicket defeat at Lord's, De Grandhomme pulled out in the middle while bowling his fourth over. He immediately went off the field and did not take part for the rest of the match.
New Zealand will look to bounce back in the second Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, which will get underway from Friday (June 10) onwards.
