In a big blow to Australia, all-rounder Mitchell Owen has been ruled out of the third T20I and the three-match ODI series against South Africa with a concussion. The all-rounder, who was hit on the helmet in the second T20I, will now be forced to sit out for the next 12 days.
Australia will also be without Matt Short, who has been out since the West Indies series with a side strain. Pacer Lance Morris, who was named in the ODI squad, too, has been ruled out of the series. Matthew Kuhnemann and Aaron Hardie have been named as replacements for the injured players, with Australia keeping a close tab on the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Cricket Australia’s 12-day concussion protocols ruled Owen out of the remainder of the series. Barring that, the rest of the make-up of the squad remains the same, as Mitchell Marsh will lead the side, with Josh Hazlewood leading the bowling unit.
