NEWSAhead of the 2021 edition of the World T20 in the Middle East, Pakistan have been termed as the ‘favourites’ by multiple experts. One of the major reasons that has made the experts tilt the decision in Pakistan’s favour is their past in the country, which incidentally also served as their home post the ban on cricket in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s all-rounder Imad Wasim also insisted that the conditions in the Middle East will suit their style of cricket before he stated that the team has the skillset to take themselves deep in the Championship.
“UAE’s conditions will suit as it is like a home ground for us, having played there for a long period of time. This is why we are also considered as one of the favourites for the tournament. We have skillful players who can take us deep in the championship so we will try to give our 100 per cent on the field,” Wasim was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
While Pakistan suffered a loss at the hands of England, it provided them with the opportunity to gauge their weights ahead of the World T20. Wasim insisted that the focus of the group is on winning the upcoming tours to go into the global competition on rhythm and confidence.
“We have two or three good series before that [T20 World Cup] and focused on winning that so that we head into the World Cup with rhythm and confidence,” he added.
Wasim also revealed that with performances in List A cricket back home, he aims to make a comeback into the Pakistan squad for the future tours.
“I want to play ODI cricket and I told everyone about it too. I have only played two or three ODIs since the 2019 World Cup and I don’t know why I was dropped from the side. But that’s the decision of the selectors, coaches and captain and I have to accept it. Although, I will continue playing domestic cricket [List A] and perform to the best of my ability,” he signed off.
