After stamping his authority in the five-match 50-over series against England Under-19, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 star Vaibhav Suryavanshi began the first Youth Test in New Beckenham in commanding fashion but failed to convert his start into a big score.
The left-handed batter smashed James Minto for three fours in the very first over but was dismissed by Alex Green in the fourth over after scoring 14 off 13 deliveries.
This was reminiscent of what his opening partner at Rajasthan Royals (RR) and India’s Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal did in the third Test against England at Lord’s.
Jaiswal cracked Chris Woakes for three boundaries in the first over and gave India a fiery start in response to England’s first-innings total of 387. However, he couldn’t capitalise on the momentum and was caught at slip off Jofra Archer in the second over.
Suryavanshi, who hammered a record 355 runs at an average of 71 and a strike rate of 174.01 in the Youth ODIs, formed a formidable opening pair with Jaiswal for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025.
The duo opened together in seven innings and amassed 422 runs at an average of 60.3 and a staggering strike rate of 202.9.
