Craig McMillan has accepted a new deal, which will see him serve as a full-time assistant coach for the New Zealand women’s team, starting with the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The 48-year-old played a key role in New Zealand breaking their T20 World Cup jinx, with a win in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.
McMillan will now work closely with head coach Ben Sawyer as New Zealand look to lift the 50-over title, becoming one of the rare sides to have both titles under their belts. But New Zealand will face the challenge of India and Australia in the upcoming World Cup.
"I'm over the moon to be in this role with the White Ferns," said McMillan. "The women's game is going from strength to strength, and I'm excited to continue to work with our talented players and help them reach their goals. The last year has gone so quickly, and I've loved every minute of being part of a team that continues to improve, challenge one another, and does special things on the world stage."
Thus far, the New Zealand women’s team has had a camp in Chennai, where they have extensively worked with the Super Kings Academy (SKA) to acclimatise to the conditions.
"It's been a busy period leading into the 50-over World Cup. We've had a number of camp,s including one in Chennai, which exposed the players to Indian conditions like what they'll face in October-November.
"The team is pumped to get back to India and take on another World Cup."
