Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his stellar run in Test cricket, with yet another sizzling half-century in the second Test against England, on July 2 (Wednesday). On a tough track early on, Jaiswal took the attack to the hosts, with a boundary in the very first over, smashing Chris Woakes.
The left-hander also got a lucky reprieve in the seventh over of the innings, when umpire Sharfuddoula had deemed the left-hander not out. At that time, Jaiswal was still on 12 off 21 deliveries, and had to further drop the anchor, once KL Rahul got out for a 26-ball two.
But once he got accustomed to the conditions, Jaiswal took on Josh Tongue, with three boundaries in the same over. That’s when the left-hander accelerated crazily, smashing five boundaries in the next four overs, bringing up his half-century, a fifth in SENA countries.
With that half-century, Jaiswal (5) already surpassed Rohit Sharma’s record (4) in SENA countries, with his fifth 50+ score, more than Rohit’s numbers, as an opener. The crazy record already proves why Jaiswal’s start is one of the greatest-ever beginnings for an Indian opener.
Jaiswal is just one half-century away from equalling Rohit’s record, as most 50+ scores for an Indian opener against England.
