After making a successful return to the Asian Games in Hangzhou. China’s edition of 2022 (held in 2023), Cricket, has now retained its place in the quadrennial meeting of Asian nations, scheduled to be next held at Aichi-Nagoya in Japan in 2026.
The games in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya city will be held from September 19 to October 4.
“The latest development in the compilation of the sports programme came at the 41st meeting of the AINAGOC Board of Directors at Nagoya City Hall on Monday, April 28, when cricket and Mixed Martial Arts were both formally approved,” the Olympics Council Of Asia said in a statement.
After having made its debut in Guangzhou (China) in 2010, Cricket returned to the multinational event at Incheon (South Korea) in 2014. But in 2018, in the Games held in Jakarta-Palembang (Indonesia), cricket could not be included as one of the events.
However, it was not until the Hangzhou Asian Games that the matches held in the Asian Games were accorded international T20 status.
India are the current holders of the Gold medals in both the male and female categories, having won their events in 2023.
