Devon Conway was called up as a replacement for Finn Allen after the latter was ruled out for the T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe, involving South Africa and the hosts as the other two teams apart from New Zealand.
Allen was the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, but got injured while playing for Washington Freedom in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025.
Apart from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Conway, Jimmy Neesham, Mitch Hay and Tim Robinson were also called-up for the series as covers for Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra, who are also involved in MLC 2025.
“Devon Conway, Mitch Hay, Jimmy Neesham and Tim Robinson will join the BLACKCAPS T20I squad in Harare for the upcoming Tri-Series against Zimbabwe and South Africa,” Cricket New Zealand said in a statement released on July 13th (Sunday).
Reacting to the latest developments, New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said, “We’re really gutted for Finn. I was looking forward to working with him and to see him continue his form from the MLC but unfortunately, injuries happen.”
“We’re lucky to be able to call on someone of Devon’s quality to replace Finn. We knew there’d be a possibility that a handful of players could be involved in the MLC final on Monday, so we’re bringing in Mitch, Jimmy and Tim as possible replacements,” he added further.
New Zealand will play their first match of the tri-series on July 16th against South Africa.
