Ravichandran Ashwin will continue his stay away from cricket after not being named in Tamil Nadu’s squad for the remaining two Ranji Trophy fixtures. Sai Kishore will continue as the captain of the side announced on January 15 (Wednesday). N Jagadeesan will serve as his deputy for those last two games.
Despite a stellar debut, Gurjapneet Singh has been dropped from the setup, while Shahrukh Khan too has got a similar treatment despite his 86 in Tamil Nadu’s last Ranji Trophy fixture. There’s no Sai Sudharsan in the squad, which could be because the left-hander is still recovering from his surgery.
While there were talks that Washington Sundar would feature for Tamil Nadu, his selection in the three-match T20I series against England meant that he was out of the reckoning with the series starting January 22. Tamil Nadu have a serious chance of qualifying for the next stage with 19 points from five games. Their next two opponents are Chandigarh and Jharkhand.
