A total of 784 players have registered for the SA20's 2025-26 season. The most interesting part of the auction, which will take place on September 9 in Cape Town, will be the presence of Indian names on the roster.
A total of 13 players, including former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Ankit Rajpoot, who played all his cricket for Uttar Pradesh in the Indian domestic circuit, signed up for the big auction.
Registered alongside Rajpoot are former Indian internationals and Indian Premier League (IPL) stars Piyush Chawla and Siddarth Kaul. All three of them, Rajpoot, Chawla and Kaul played for various franchises during their time in IPL.
While Chawla played for Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, Kaul represented Punjab in the domestic circuit. Apart from these three famous names, other Indians include Mahesh Ahir (Gujarat), Sarul Kanwar (Punjab), Anureet Singh Kathuria (Delhi), Nikhil Jaga (Rajasthan), Mohamed Faidh (state not mentioned), KS Naveen (Tamil Nadu), Ansari Marouf (state not mentioned), Imran Khan (UPCA), Venkatesh Galipelly (state not mentioned), and Atul Yadav (UPCA).
“All the Indian players have a base price of 200,000 Rand, except Piyush Chawla, whose reserve price is 1,000,000 Rand,” reported Cricbuzz.
Dinesh Karthik is the first and only Indian so far to have played in SA20 as he was picked by Paarl Royals for the 2024-25 season.
The SA20’s 2025-26 season, which will be the fourth edition of the league in which all the franchises are the sister franchises of the IPL, will kick off on Boxing Day i.e. December 26 and last till January 25 with the final at Cape Town.
The playoffs will be held in Durban, Centurion, and Johannesburg, with the final at Cape Town as MI Cape Town are the defending champions.
