CSK Skipper And His Team Embarrassed By Chhattisgarh In Buchi Babu Tournament
Ruturaj Gaikwad could score only 1 and 11 in the game against Chhattisgarh
Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad failed in both innings of Maharashtra’s first game in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. Playing against Chhattisgarh, Gaikwad could only score 1 and 11 in the two innings as his side failed to chase 185 to win the game, and fell behind by 36 runs.
Gaikwad, who had to cut short his Indian Premier League 2025 season due to an injury, was making his comeback after a long hiatus, and the top-order batter looked out of touch.
Notably, Prithvi Shaw, who had a brilliant century in the first innings, also couldn’t help Maharashtra in the chase in the fourth innings. Earlier, despite his ton, he lacked support from the other batters in the first innings as his side got bundled out for just 217, after which Chhattisgarh got a 35-run lead, which turned out to be decisive in the second innings.
Maharashtra will now face TNCA President’s XI in the next game from August 22; however, before that, they would need their skipper, Gaikwad, to get back in form and score some runs. Gaikwad is currently out of contention in the Indian team setup as well, and he needs a good domestic season ahead to stay in the fray for the national side.
A dip in form here could also see him lose captaincy of CSK if the franchise chooses to trade in a player like Sanju Samson.
