Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have gone from bad to worse in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. With a five-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 25 (Friday), this is the first time CSK have lost seven of their first nine games in an IPL season.
This is only the second time CSK have lost four games in a row at Chepauk. What’s more, this is also the first time SRH have defeated CSK at Chepauk in the IPL. Before tonight, SRH had lost all five of their games at the venue against Chennai.
The Men in Yellow were bowled out for a below-par score of 154 in 19.5 overs, with Harshal Patel claiming four wickets. Ayush Mhatre (30 off 19) and Dewald Brevis (42 off 25) were the only CSK batters who showed some fight.
With the dew settling in, it was always going to be tough for CSK to defend the total, and it was pretty evident that they were 20-25 runs short on this surface.
Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen didn’t contribute much but Ishan Kishan played a steady knock of 44 (33). Kamindu Mendis (30* off 21) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19 off 13*) finished things off with more than an over to spare.
CSK continue to stay at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table and will now need a miracle to qualify for the playoffs. MS Dhoni and Co. don’t only need to win all their remaining six games but will also need a lot of results to go in their favour.
Meanwhile, SRH got their third win of the IPL 2025 and have kept themselves alive in the tournament.
