Heading into the clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk today, Sunil Narine vs MS Dhoni was one of the most lop-sided and embarrassing matchups in the history of the T20 format.
Before tonight, Dhoni had scored only 48 runs off 91 balls against Narine at a strike rate of 52.8 while getting dismissed twice. In the IPL, Dhoni had scored 39 off 74 balls against Narine at a strike rate of 52.7.
Well, this already-embarrassing record somehow became even worse tonight at Chepauk as Dhoni perished the first ball he faced against Narine today, trapped LBW.
The CSK skipper tried to work the ball through the on-side but got struck in front. Dhoni was given out on-field but he went for a review immediately.
The third umpire made a slightly contentious call during the DRS process. The ultra edge showed a small spike while the ball went past the bat, but the official concluded that there was a clear gap between bat and ball. Ball tracking showed three reds, and Dhoni had to depart.
Dhoni walked in with CSK in tatters at 72/7. This was the first time Dhoni had batted lower than No.8 as captain of CSK.
