Ayush Mhatre had a terrible time in the Youth ODIs against England Under-19, scoring just 27 runs across four innings at an average of 6.75 and a strike rate of 50.94.
Coming into the first red-ball game in Beckenham, the 17-year-old was under tremendous pressure - but he responded with a stunning century on Day 1, July 12 (Saturday).
The star of the Youth ODI series, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, was dismissed after scoring 14 off 13 deliveries. However, India Under-19 captain Mhatre stepped up and slammed 102 off 115 balls.
The right-handed batter struck 14 fours and two sixes, operating at a strike rate of 88.69. He eventually fell to Michael Vaughan’s son, Archie Vaughan, in the 38th over.
Mhatre has already featured in nine first-class matches for Mumbai, amassing 504 runs at an average of 31.5, including one fifty and two centuries.
He made a name for himself during his debut IPL season in 2025, playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In seven innings, he scored 240 runs at an average of 34.28 and a strike rate of 188.97.
