Dewald Brevis has been rewarded for a stellar 2025, with the 22-year-old named in South Africa’s playing XI for the first Test against Zimbabwe, starting June 28 (Saturday). The CSK middle-order batter’s impact in red-ball cricket was evident, with 573 runs in CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 2024/25, averaging 47.75.
Not just that, the Proteas have also included the teenage sensation, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, in the playing XI. The left-handed batter, who is just 19, smashed 436 runs in the same competition, with 58 boundaries, and three centuries.
However, neither of them are slated to bat in the top four, meaning they will have to bat out of position in the national setup. As per South Africa's playing XI on social media, Breetzke will open alongside Tony de Zorzi, with Wiaan Mulder slated at No.3. David Bedingham jumps up one position to bat at No.4 in this setup.
In Temba Bavuma’s absence, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj will lead the weakened South African side against Zimbabwe.
Corbin Bosch, Codi Yusuf and Kwena Maphaka will form the pace trio, with Yusuf making his Test debut.
