Cummins donates USD 50,000 to help India in their battle against Covid-19

"To know so many are suffering so much at this time saddens me greatly," the KKR fast bowler said in a statement

Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins has donated USD 50,000 to the PM Cares Fund to help India battle the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The KKR pacer took to Twitter to make the announcement and has urged other players to do the same.

"There has been a lot of discussions over here as to whether it is appropriate for the IPL to continue while COVID-19 infection rates remain high. I am advised that Indian government is of the view that playing the IPL while the population is in lockdown provides few hours of joy and respite each day at an otherwise difficult time for the country. To know so many are suffering so much at this time saddens me greatly," Cummins said in his statement.

Australia cricketers Andrew Tye, Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa have returned home as they fear getting locked out of their own country. England all-rounder Liam Livingstone too had flown back home citing bubble fatigue.

The BCCI however remains adamant that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 will go on as planned despite the surge in Covid-19 cases.
