Sunrisers Hyderabad were in a do or die situation against Delhi Capitals, as a defeat would have ended their chances of playoffs qualification. However, SRH skipper Pat Cummins said not today and bowled with such accuracy and penetration that DC registered their worst powerplay in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Meanwhile, Cummins registered the best figures for a skipper in the first six overs of an IPL innings as he dismissed three DC batters for just 12 runs.
Cummins' attack on the DC batting order began from the first ball itself when he dismissed Karun Nair by bowling on the sixth stump line, getting him caught behind by Ishan Kishan.
In his very next over, he gave DC an even bigger jolt when he banged the ball into the track on middle and off in the third over, and Faf du Plessis charged him down but could only get a faint edge on his agricultural slog. Kishan made no mistake.
The same duo of Cummins and Kishan then also came together to dismiss Abhishek Porel in the same fashion as the ball just held into the surface this time, and Porel’s attempted pick-up was skied. Harshal Patel and Jayden Unadkat joined the party soon, and by the 43rd delivery of DC’s innings, they were 29/5.
Along with being the worst powerplay performance for DC this season (they scored just 26/4 in six overs), this was also the second-worst batting performance by a team in the first six overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Meanwhile, Cummins also registered his second-best figures inside the powerplay in IPL (3/12).
