Royal Challengers Bangalore's Daniel Sams became the latest cricketer to test positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Indian Premier League 2021.

The Australian all-rounder joined the RCB squad in Chennai on April 3 with a negative report, but was found positive in subsequent testing made mandatory as per the IPL SOPs. The franchise however has confirmed that he was in isolation when tested positive on Wednesday (April 7).

"Daniel Sams checked into the team hotel in Chennai on April 3rd, with a negative COVID report on arrival. His report from the 2nd test on 7th April came positive. Sams is currently asymptomatic and he is currently in isolation at a designated medical facility," RCB said in a statement.

"Royal Challengers Bangalore medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health and abide by the BCCI protocols."

The 28-year-old, who was traded to Bangalore from Delhi Capitals, is the fourth player to test positive for COVID-19 ahead of the 14th edition of the lucrative T20 league.

Earlier, his RCB team-mate Devudtt Padikkal too had tested positive for the virus but has now recovered and joined the squad.

"We are pleased to inform that Royal Challengers Bangalore, Left-handed Batsman Devdutt Paddikal, has joined the team on 7th April 2021 with negative reports for COVID-19 as per BCCI protocols. RCB medical team was in constant touch with Devdutt to ensure his safety and well-being," RCB said in a statement.

Delhi's Axar Patel and Kolkata Knight Riders' Nitish Rana were the other two players who were found positive. Meanwhile, on Tuesday (April 6), Mumbai Indians announced that their scout and wicketkeeping consultant Kiran More too was tested positive.
