Senior West Indies batter Darren Bravo has decided to step away from the game for a bit after he was not picked for the upcoming series agianst England, starting December 3. Bravo was neither considered for the for the One-Day International (ODI) series nor the T20 Internationals (T20I).
The 34-year-old. who last played for the West Indies last year, took to Instagram to make the announcement, but at the same time, has vowed not to give up.
"I’ve taken some time to ponder and wonder what’s my next step moving forward as a cricketer," he wrote.
"At this point in my career, it’s not easy, or should I say it takes a lot to continue to find the energy, passion, commitment and discipline to be able to perform to the best of my ability and put myself in a position to make my return to international cricket.
"Without any level of communication, I’ve been left in a very dark place. At the moment, there are three teams representing the region in multiple formats/series. That’s approximately 40–45 players and if I can’t be in any of these teams after competing in our regional tournaments and scoring runs, therefore they are basically telling me that the writing is on the wall.
"I’m not giving up but I believe it’s best to step away just for a bit and maybe make some room for a young and upcoming talent. I will end by wishing each and everyone all the very best. “I’ve lived my dream” 46 #AGEISJUSANUMBER."
Bravo showed tremendous form in the Regional Super50 2023-24, where he finished as the leading run-getter with 416 runs at 83.20 to go with a strike-rate of 92.03. He also hit a century and three fifties in eight innings in the tournament. He led Trinidad and Tobago to the title, scoring 40 off 35 in the final against Leeward Islands on November 11.
All-rounder Dwayne Bravo, also did not take kindly to his brother's snub. He blamed director Desmond Haynes for it.
"I usually stay away from these discussions, but the mistreatment, disrespect, and dishonesty towards players over the years demand a voice. When will it stop?" he wrote on social media.
Since making his debut in 2009, Darren Bravo, has played 56 Tests, 122 ODIs and 26 T20Is and has scored over 7,000 runs for West Indies across formats.
