Dasun Shanaka to lead Sri Lanka against India

Fast bowling all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been named captain of the Sri Lanka side that will face India

All-rounder Dasun Shanaka has named captain of Sri Lanka's 25-player squad that will face India in the limited-over series starting July 18 after regular skipper Kusal Perera was ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

Spin bowling all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva will be Shanaka's deputy for the three ODIs and as many T20Is against Shikhar Dhawan-led side.

Sri Lanka Cricket on Friday announced the squad which also include absentees, Perera and pacer Binura Fernando, who will miss the ODIs due to a ligament sprain.

All-rounders Ishan Jayaratne and batsman Lahiru Udara have received their maiden call-ups while keeper-batsman Minod Bhanuka, who last played against Pakistan in 2019, has been called up as Perera's replacement. Medium pacer Kasun Rajitha also returned to the national squad after last playing white-ball cricket in 2019.

India are without Virat Kohli and other regulars as they are currently in the UK for the five-match Test series against England. Sri Lanka come into the series on the back of two series defeats against Bangladesh and England.

The series was postponed by a few days after COVID-19 positive cases within the Sri Lankan camp that returned from the tour of England. All the matches will be played in Colombo with the opening ODI on July 18. The T20I series will start from July 25.
