South Africa batter David Bedingham was supposedly set to get married during the weekend, but when Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) reached their third consecutive SA20 final, he chose to postpone the wedding and turn up for his franchise, which was chasing their third consecutive title.
Bedingham was to tie the knot with Jenna van Niekerk but instead opened the batting for the Sunrisers, who eventually succumbed to a 76-run loss in the final in Johannesburg on February 9 (Saturday).
“The wedding was booked and planned, but then SEC made the final, so now he has moved the wedding to tomorrow,” ESPNCricinfo journalist Firdose Moonda claimed.
“My missus yesterday was literally saying I hope you guys lose [the Qualifier], but she said once we won that we must make it to the final and then hopefully make it to the wedding as well,” Bedingham said ahead of the final.
The wedding, which was due to take place on the day of the final, is expected to be held on February 9 (Sunday), with Bedingham expected to have rushed off right after the match.
Chasing 182, the 30-year-old could manage just five off eight deliveries as his side were bundled out for just 105, allowing MI Cape Town to win their maiden title.
