David Wiese To Captain Punjab Kings-Owned Saint Lucia In CPL 2025

Wiese played an integral role in Kings’ title-winning campaign last year

Defending Caribbean Premier League (CPL) champions Saint Lucia Kings have announced that veteran all-rounder David Wiese will captain the side in the forthcoming edition of the competition.

Saint Lucia Kings, owned by the Punjab Kings, won their maiden CPL title in 2025 and there they were led by Faf du Plessis. However, du Plessis jumped ship to The Hundred ahead of the new season, which he is now slated to miss due to a groin injury.

Wiese, the newly-appointed captain, has made 26 appearances for the Kings overall, and he played an integral role in Kings’ title-winning campaign last year, scoring 121 runs at a strike rate of 168 while also taking 13 wickets at an economy of 8.20.

“It is a huge honour to lead this team. I am absolutely humbled to be named your captain. This season, we will be playing with passion, heart and unity. You will see us give everything for each other and for you. And fans, we need you with us to pack the stadiums, lift the vibe and let's paint Saint Lucia blue. Let's make this a special season,” Wiese said of his appointment.

Speaking of the appointment, Saint Lucia Kings head coach Darren Sammy said: “David Wiese has been a part of the family for a long time. He has been with us for a number of years and has put on some excellent performances. We cannot wait to start our first home game on August 23rd. We know Saint Lucia Kings are the best fans and you will come out at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground and paint it blue, as you support out new captain and our team. CPL 2025, biggest party in sports and Saint Lucia Kings are ready, hope you are too."

The 2025 edition of the CPL will kick-off from August 14th.
