Despite the complete absence of rain, the third day of the Kanpur Test between India and Bangladesh has been abandoned due to unfit conditions.
Unlike Day 2, which was marred by incessant rain, there was no rain on the third day. It was not sunny, but the weather was relatively clear. However, after three separate inspections, the officials decided that the conditions were not fit enough to play, thereby calling off the day.
That’s two days lost to rain in this Test without a single ball being bowled. Only 35 overs have so far been bowled in the contest, with the said overs being bowled in a small window before and after lunch on the first day.
It remains to be seen if the ground staff will manage to prepare the ground for play on the fourth day. The good news is that rain is not predicted for the final two days of the Test.
As it stands, Bangladesh are 107/3, with Mominul Haque (40*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6*) batting. The Tigers were inserted into bat on Day 1 by India, who for the first time in nine years opted to bowl in a home Test after winning the toss.
