Bought for all of INR 50 lakh at the mega auction, Delhi Capitals’ Vipraj Nigam was one of the breakthrough young performers in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). A leg-spinner who is a very handy lower-order batter, Vipraj took 11 wickets in the season while also scoring 142 runs at a strike rate of nearly 180. He won games with both bat and ball for DC and was mighty impressive in his debut season.
This impressive form led to an India ‘A’ call-up against Australia ‘A’ despite the all-rounder having only played 5 List A matches.
The 21-year-old made his India ‘A’ debut today in the third unofficial ODI against Australia ‘A’ but endured a nightmare outing, registering figures of 0/60 while bowling all of 6 overs. Vipraj was introduced as the first-change bowler but after being hammered by the highly-rated Cooper Connolly, he did not bowl any overs post the 23rd over of Australia A’s innings.
In the same game, his DC teammate Jake Fraser-McGurk continued to slide further as he departed for 5 off 7 balls, falling to Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep, on the other hand, had a solid game, taking a three-wicket haul.
Harshit Rana, who yesterday was named in India’s ODI squad for the Australia tour, also took a 3-fer, registering figures of 3/61.
For Australia ‘A’, all-rounders Connolly (64), Liam Scott (73) and Jack Edwards (89) were the pick of the batters as they recovered from 44/4 to post 316.
