Dottin back in West Indies squad for 2024 Women's T20 World Cup

The 26-year-old uncapped left-arm seamer, Nerissa Crafton has also been picked in the 15-member squad

West Indies have included Deandra Dottin in their 15-member squad for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be played in the UAE in October. The 33-year-old, who announced her retirement from international cricket in 2022, reversed her decision last month.

When she retired earlier, she cited the administration of cricket in the West Indies as one of the reasons behind her quitting international cricket.

However, as per the statement released by Cricket West Indies (CWI), she has communicated clearly with “various parties in international cricket, including Cricket West Indies President, Dr Kishore Shallow,” and is happy to offer services to Windies Cricket.

Dottin is the leading run-scorer in the ongoing Women's Caribbean Premier League, having scored 113 runs in four innings at an average of 28.25 and strike rate of 111.88.

The 26-year-old uncapped left-arm seamer, Nerissa Crafton has also been picked in the squad. Left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Zaida James, 19, is also part of the set-up, which will be led by star all-rounder Hayley Matthews.

"We have a nice mix of experience and youth. We have some players bordering [on] 19; I think Zaida is still probably a teenager and one or two of the young players there. So, really happy with the mix,” said Shallow.

"Also, I think, we all as West Indians are excited to see Deandra Dottin back. It has been a year of communication - back and forth - with Deandra, and I particularly want to recognise the involvement of Ann Browne-John who has led those conversations over the last year, even when she wasn't officially the selector. She was integral in Deandra coming out of retirement."

West Indies are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, South Africa, England and Scotland. The Women in Maroon, who won the 2016 edition of the T20WC, will start their campaign against South Africa on October 4.

Squad - Hayley Matthews (c), Shermaine Campbelle, Aaliyah Alleyne, Afy Fletcher, Ashmini Munisar, Chedean Nation, Chinelle Henry, Deandra Dottin, Karishma Ramharack, Mandy Mangru, Nerissa Crafton, Qiana Joseph, Shamila Connell, Stafanie Taylor, Zaida James
