Debutant Solozano set to stay under observation overnight

Fielding at short leg, the debutant was hit on his head by a shot from Dimuth Karunaratne

Jeremy Solozano, who made his well-awaited debut against Sri Lanka in the first Test, is all set to stay under observation overnight after a blow to his head. The opener was hit by a shot from Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne, with the early scans suggesting that the batter has no ‘structural damage’.

“🚨 UPDATE🚨 Jeremy Solozano’s scans show no structural damage. He will be kept at the hospital overnight for observation 🙏🏽 We will continue to keep you posted on any further updates from our Medical team,” West Indies Cricket’s Twitter account tweeted.

Fielding at short-leg, the batter was smacked on his helmet grille, with the rear part of his helmet coming off. The opener laid still on the ground, with players surrounding him before the physio rushed to tend him following the injury. Solozano was later stretchered off the field, taken to the hospital.

The debutant will now be under observation overnight with a decision on his involvement in the game set to be taken later.
