Defending Champions Australia Announce Squad For Women’s ODI World Cup 2025
10 of the 15 members named in this squad featured in the previous edition of the tournament back in 2022
It’s a major milestone for one of Australia’s greatest ever cricketers, Alyssa Healy, as she will be leading the country in a 50-over World Cup for the first time ever, having been named captain of Australia’s 15-member squad for the mega event that’s starting later this month.
This will be Healy’s third 50-over World Cup as a player but first as skipper, with her now having taken over the mantle from Meg Lanning, who led Australia Women to the title in 2022.
There is no paucity of experience in the Australian squad, with the likes of Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner, Grace Harris and Megan Schutt all named in the squad.
This will be the fifth appearance in the 50-over World Cup for Perry, who played in the 2009 World Cup at home as an 18-year-old and also featured in the 2013, 2017 & 2022 editions.
34 now, 2025 will likely be Perry’s last 50-over World Cup. She’s a two-time winner, having lifted the title in 2013 and 2022. Notably, the first of those titles came in India, when Australia triumphed over the West Indies at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Perry included, 10 of the 15 members named in this squad featured in the previous edition of the tournament back in 2022.
Australia, defending champions, will begin their title defence against New Zealand in Indore on October 1.
