The co-owner of the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Parth Jindal, wrote to the IPL Governing Council (GC), seeking a shift of the game between his team and the Mumbai Indians to another venue.
But the game is scheduled to be played in Mumbai, despite a yellow alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the match on May 21 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Delhi currently have 13 points from 12 games while Mumbai have 14. In case of a washout, both teams will get one point each with one match left for them in the league, giving a clear advantage to Mumbai as a win in their last match would take them through to the playoffs. However, if they win today, they will automatically qualify.
The basis of Jindal’s request was IPL GC moving the game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) away from Bengaluru to Lucknow, citing unfavourable conditions at the former due to heavy rain forecasts.
"The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out. Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow's game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers,” ESPN cricinfo quoted an email sent by Jindal to IPL GC.
Jindal was the second owner to write to IPL GC after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s Venky Mysore had earlier registered his plea to the council on a similar rule change matter since the restart of the league on May 17.
