Mitchell Marsh ruled out of rest of IPL 2024, confirms Ponting

DC’s head coach, Ricky Ponting, confirmed that Marsh won’t return for the remainder of the season

Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting will be without their key all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for the remainder of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Marsh is set to remain in Australia, given that Cricket Australia (CA) want their captain to be fit and available for the entire T20 World Cup.

The all-rounder returned home on April 7 (Sunday), after their clash against Mumbai Indians. Marsh, though, is expected to be fully fit at the global event in the Caribbean and the United States of America (USA).

"I don't think he'll be coming back. There's a certain cut off point with replacement players. Cricket Australia were keen to have him at home to start his recovery process and we sent him back as soon as we could,” Ponting said.

"They've been managing his rehab for a couple of weeks now. I spoke to him the other day and it seems it's taken a little longer than he first thought to get over it. I don't think the T20 World Cup would be an issue."

At the 2022 IPL Auction, the all-rounder was picked up for INR 6.5 crores, and he has only scored 440 runs for the franchise, with an average of 20.95 and a strike rate of 135.80. Last year, in the 2023 season, the all-rounder was also Delhi’s best bowler, with 12 wickets, averaging 14.17.
