24-year-old Devdutt Padikkal became the second Indian after Virat Kohli to notch up 1000 IPL runs, bringing up the feat in the clash against Rajasthan Royals on April 13 (Sunday). The left-hander spent two years with RCB (2019-21) before joining the Royals in the subsequent IPL seasons (2022-23).
Padikkal was then traded for Avesh Khan the next year, joining Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, the left-hander did not have a good season, with just 38 runs across seven IPL games and a meagre 5.43 average.
With the left-hander’s struggle, it wasn’t expected that he would get a lot of buyers and play an important role for RCB. However, as it has turned out thus far, Padikkal has really turned a corner, with 95 runs across six encounters, striking at 131.94, which is a massive jump over 71.70.
8252 - Virat Kohli
1003 - Devdutt Padikkal*
985 - Rajat Patidar
937 - Dinesh Karthik
But in his 28-ball 40, what Padikkal did was notch up 1000 runs, leapfrogging Rajat Patidar’s tally of 985. Kohli has been leaps and bounds above as RCB’s highest run-scorer in the history, with 8252 runs.
