NEWSDhawal Kulkarni, who retired from domestic cricket after the victorious 2023-24 Ranji Trophy campaign, has now been appointed as the bowling mentor for the team for the 2024-25 season. Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) apex council decided to appoint Kulkarni, considering his terrific understanding of Mumbai cricket and rich experience.
The Apex Council has also decided to honour former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar on his 75th birthday.
“We have appointed Dhawal Kulkarni as the bowling mentor for the upcoming season. Additionally, Mr. Amol Kale (president) proposed and the Apex Council unanimously approved to honour Mr. Sunil Gavaskar on his 75th birthday,” MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik said.
Before retiring last year, Kulkarni had hinted about taking over the mentorship role in a conversation with Cricket.com.
“We've won so many championships, and it's a legacy. So we're just carrying that forward. Before me, it was Ajit (Agarkar), then Zaheer (Khan). They used to mentor me. And now, the responsibility is on my shoulders. I’ve got the experience of so many years. So whatever I've learned from those guys—when they were in the team, I was just a youngster. And whatever I've learned, I'm trying to carry that forward and help these guys, whoever is bowling along with me,” Kulkarni told Cricket.com.
After retiring from professional cricket, Kulkarni has kept himself around cricket with commentary gigs during the Indian Premier League.
