Did You Know? Marcus Stoinis Holds THIS All-Time Australian ODI Record

During his time as an Australian ODI player, Stoinis scored 1495 runs with the bat and took a total of 48 wickets

After nearly a decade, Marcus Stoinis has called time on his ODI career. The all-rounder made his ODI debut in 2015 against England and steps away from the format having played 71 games.

During his time as an Australian ODI player, Stoinis scored 1495 runs with the bat and took a total of 48 wickets. He proved to be a solid all-rounder for the Kangaroos and was part of the squad that won the ODI World Cup in 2023, where he made many a vital contribution with both bat and ball.

Admittedly, Stoinis did not fulfill his potential in 50-over cricket, but did you know that he retires from ODIs being the holder of an all-time Australian record?

Which all-time Australia record does Marcus Stoinis hold?

In his very second match, Stoinis played one of the best knocks in losing causes ever, smashing 146* off 117 against New Zealand at Eden Park in 2017. Chasing 287, Australia were teetering at 67/6 but from this point onwards, Stoinis nearly single-handedly took the Aussies home.

The 146 he scored is, to date, the highest score posted by an Australian batting at No.7 or lower in ODI cricket.

In fact, there have only been three other centuries for Australia at No.7 or lower in ODIs - James Faulkner 116 vs India, Glenn Maxwell 108 vs England and Matthew Wade 100*.

In ODI history, there’s only one batter who has scored more runs in an innings batting at No.7 or lower. That’s Luke Ronchi, who hit 170* for New Zealand against Sri Lanka in Dunedin in 2015.

Stoinis, in the aforementioned knock, also hit 11 sixes, the second-most by an Australian in an innings in ODI cricket. Watson (15 sixes vs Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2011) is the only Aussie batter to have bettered this.
