Dinesh Karthik to retire from IPL following 2024 season

Karthik, one of the most successful players in the league, has 4516 runs in the tournament

IPL 2024 will be the last for Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik. One of the few players to have featured in all seasons of IPL since the tournament’s inception in 2008. ESPNCricinfo reported that Karthik will take a call about his international career after the IPL. However, with the former keeper last representing India in the 2022 T20 World Cup, his India career is as good as over.

Karthik was picked by RCB ahead of IPL 2022 - a season in which he amassed 330 runs in 16 matches at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33, but he failed to replicate the same performance in IPL 2023.

Since making his debut in 2008 for Delhi Daredevils, Karthik has represented multiple teams in the competition - and even led Kolkata Knight Riders for three seasons between 2018 and 2020. Karthik, one of the most successful players in the league, has 4516 runs in the tournament.

Karthik’s side, Royal Challengers Bangalore, will lock horns with defending champions Chennai Super Kings on March 23 in Chepauk - a venue where the batter has grown up playing all his life, since his age-group days for Tamil Nadu.
