Quinton de Kock joined the list of players who, after having decided to retire from international cricket or one format of the game, have made a comeback to international cricket.
In his comeback game, though, which was against Namibia, the left-handed batter was unable to create any impact whatsoever as he managed just one run in four balls that he played as an opener.
It was a bad game for de Kock, who has committed to play white-ball cricket for South Africa again, most probably till the home World Cup in 2027. South Africa, in fact, suffered their first-ever defeat to Namibia in any format as the hosts won the nail-biting clash on the last ball.
De Kock, who has 6,770 runs in 155 ODIs and 2,585 runs in 93 T20Is, had announced his retirement from the 50-over format after the 2023 World Cup semi-final defeat. In T20Is, he last played the T20 World Cup 2024 final, which again ended in a defeat.
Although he had not announced retirement from the shortest format, people were already of the belief that de Kock had played his last for South Africa, having already retired from Tests in 2021.
The wicketkeeper-batter will now travel to Pakistan for three ODIs and three T20Is, which will start after two Tests on the tour. The first Test will kick off on October 12 (Sunday) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
