‘Doctor Said I Wouldn’t Have Survived If…’ - Tamim Iqbal Opens Up On Harrowing Near-Death Experience

Tamim suffered a heart attack in the middle of a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game earlier this week

The cricketing world was witness to one of the scariest incidents in recent memory earlier this week as Bangladesh superstar Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack in the middle of a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game.

Tamim was representing Mohammedan Sporting Club, but he complained of chest pain during the game, after which he had to be taken to the hospital. After being cleared after a few tests at the hospital, however, Tamim collapsed on his way back to the ground, and the Mohammedan physio had to perform CPR on him before the hospital administered shock therapy to resuscitate him. The 36-year-old then underwent angioplasty.

Tamim is stable now and will be monitored by specialists for the next few weeks. Speaking for the first time since the incident, the opener reflected on the near-death experience.

“By all your prayers, I am at home nom. In these four days, I have discovered my surroundings as I found a new life. All that realisation has only love and gratitude. I have got your love throughout my career. But now I have felt it even more intensely. I am really overwhelmed,” Tamim said in a post on Facebook.

"How to thank our trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim bhai, I don't really know. I learned later, the specialist doctors said that I wouldn't have been saved if Dalim Bhai had not given CPR properly at that time.

“The road to full recovery is still long. Keep me and my family in your prayers. May everyone's life be beautiful and peaceful. Love for everyone.”
