Brendan Doggett, who received his maiden call-up for Ashes by the Australian team in the squad announced for the Perth Test on November 5th, celebrated the occasion in style.
The 31-year-old South Australia cricketer picked up a five-wicket haul against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield 2025-26, which was his very first match after the call-up was announced.
The right-arm medium pacer got the better of Tasmania opener Caleb Jewell before picking up their captain Jordan Silk (64). Jake Doran (27), who looked well set alongside Silk, was also removed by Doggett.
He picked the two crucial wickets six overs apart and put Tasmania in a lot of trouble, which eventually ended after the team was bowled 209, losing their last five wickets for just 34 runs.
By picking up Jackson Bird and Matthew Kuhnemann, Doggett accounted for four of the last five wickets to fall in the Tasmania innings.
But Doggett was not the only one to shine as Beau Webster, playing as a batting all-rounder, did all the damage with the ball as he too celebrated his maiden Ashes entry with a five-wicket haul in the very same game.
Webster got the big wicket of Australian teammate Travis Head. He then removed the likes of Jake Lehmann and Liam Scott before cleaning up the tail with the wickets of Nathan McAndrew and Doggett to bowl the defending champions out for 177.
At the end of Day 2 of the four-day game, Tasmania were 177/9 in their second innings, leading by 209 runs. In the second innings, too, Webster failed with the bat and got out for 8. Doggett, on the other hand, has one wicket to his name, and it is of captain Silk.
