Don't see KL Rahul being left out of England tour: Sanjay Manjrekar

The India batter finished the Australia series with 276 runs at 30.66, which included two fifties

KL Rahul started off the Test series against Australia well. He scored 77 in Perth and 84 in Brisbane, but there was nothing substantial other than that. There were a couple of starts, but the batter failed to make it count. That certainly is a cause for concern for India.

“I think now we know what KL Rahul is about. We were talking about him being India’s best batter at the start of the series. He looked so compact, then got that 80 in Brisbane as well. We thought this might just change his career in the right direction. Then you saw the failures again," former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo.

Rahul finished the Australia series with 276 runs at 30.66, which are by no means excellent numbers, but Manjrekar believes that he will still get the nod for the Test series against England, starting in June this year.

“I don’t see him being left out for England considering that India still are looking for an opener. They don’t want to go to [Abhimanyu] Easwaran, and KL Rahul, the last time he was there, played well.

"So, I see that opening combination continuing unless Rohit Sharma comes in and throws a spanner in the works."

On his previous visit to England, Rahul scored 315 runs at 39.37, which included a century and a fifty in eight innings.
